Unikyd alkyd resin range

The Unikyd range serves decorative paints, industrial coatings, automotive refinish and wood finishes. It includes long-oil, medium-oil, short-oil and hammertone alkyd resins, together with rosin-modified, urethane-modified, chain-stopped and styrenated grades. Use the table to compare current technical values or request an alkyd resin technical data sheet for a selected grade.

Selection considerations

  • Oil lengthLong-oil, medium-oil and short-oil grades provide different drying and film profiles.
  • Oil and fatty-acid baseLinseed, soya, dehydrated castor oil and mixed-fatty-acid bases interact differently with the solvent system.
  • ModificationUse the rosin-modified, urethane, chain-stopped, hammertone and styrenated sections for more specific formulation requirements.
  • Formulation validationConfirm compatibility and final film performance in the complete paint or coating system.

Alkyd resin guidance

What is the difference between long-oil, medium-oil and short-oil alkyd resins?

Oil length is the proportion of oil or fatty-acid content in the alkyd. Long-oil grades are common starting points for air-drying decorative enamels and varnishes, while medium-oil grades serve selected primers and industrial enamels. The short-oil Unikyd CO-48 is used in stoving systems. Oil type, modification, solvent, solids and the complete coating formulation also affect the final film.

How does oil length affect alkyd resin selection?

Oil length influences the balance of drying, hardness, flexibility and solubility, but it is not the only selection criterion. The oil or fatty-acid base, supplied solids, solvent, acid value, viscosity and any rosin, urethane or styrene modification must be considered with the application method and cure route. Final performance should be confirmed in the complete paint or coating formulation.

What is a chain-stopped alkyd resin?

A chain-stopped alkyd is formulated to control molecular growth and obtain a defined balance of viscosity, drying and film properties. On this page, Unikyd S-72 is listed for automotive-refinish primers, topcoats and fast-drying industrial paints. Unikyd FD-60 is a urethane-modified alkyd for wood and metal finishes. The two grades should be evaluated against their individual technical data.

Which Unikyd grades are used in decorative and industrial coatings?

Long-oil Unikyd L-80 and L-100 and medium-oil Unikyd S 705 are used in decorative and architectural finishes. Unikyd S 701 serves air-drying industrial enamels and primers, while LR-50, DR-50 and DR-70 are rosin-modified options for selected primers and enamels. The target dry time, gloss, colour, viscosity, solids and service conditions guide the shortlist.

Where are styrenated and hammertone alkyd resins used?

Unikyd STY-01 is a styrenated alkyd used in very fast-drying industrial enamels and corrosion-resistant maintenance coatings. Unikyd AMR-90 is a hammertone medium alkyd for hammertone enamels, steel-furniture finishes and industrial paints. These are distinct modifications, so the intended visual effect, dry time and finished-film requirements should be tested separately.

Can Uniform Synthetics help select an alkyd resin grade?

Yes. The coating type, substrate, application method, oil-length preference, solvent, solids target, viscosity range, drying schedule and required film properties provide a practical starting brief. The technical team can compare these requirements with the Unikyd grade table and arrange a sample or current TDS for laboratory evaluation before commercial use.

Can Unikyd alkyd resins be supplied in India and internationally?

Uniform Synthetics is an alkyd resin supplier to customers in India and established international markets. Grade availability, packaging, sample quantities and product documents are confirmed for the selected Unikyd grade and destination. Commercial supply follows agreement on the specification, order quantity, packaging and delivery requirements.
